MFA-MOF Joint Press Statement: Singapore invited to participate in the G20 Meetings and Summit in 2019

20 Dec 2018

Singapore has been invited by Japan to participate in the G20 Meetings and the Osaka Summit in 2019. The Osaka Summit, scheduled to be held from 28 to 29 June 2019, will be the fourteenth meeting of G20 Heads of State and Government. The Leaders at the Summit will look into the challenges facing the world economy and discuss how we could seek to achieve strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth.

Singapore and Japan enjoy excellent relations and cooperate closely in regional and multilateral fora. Singapore looks forward to contributing actively to G20 discussions, including on the Japanese Presidency’s priority areas of promoting a free and open, inclusive and sustainable, “human-centered future society”. Singapore appreciates Japan’s efforts to reach out to non-G20 members, and will seek to promote stronger engagement between the G20 and the Global Governance Group (3G)[1] as well as the wider United Nations membership.

Singapore looks forward to working closely with Japan as the 2019 G20 President, other G20 members, and invited partners, to achieve a successful outcome at the Meetings and at the Osaka Summit.
